The Brompton in daily use

Since beginning of 1996 I am almost daily on the way with the Bompton. At first I used it for the way to my professional retraining in Dortmund: By car I drove every morning to the station in Duisburg. Problems with parking the car I did not have anymore. Because of the folding bike I had a much bigger radius of action than on foot. At the station I had amazed spectators each time while folding the bike. Then I went by train to Dortmund and there again 2 km by bike through the city.
I was always quicker than my colleagues, who had to take the underground. In the afternoon I was flexible, when I wanted to go shopping. Dortmund or Duisburg? That made no difference - my bicycle was always with me. The Brompton drives very well through the city traffic: Because of the narrow handlebars one passes e.g. traffic jams, where other bicycles already have to give up.

Nowadays the distance to my company is only 2 km, but I prefer the Brompton instead of my "normal" bicycle: The folding and taking along is faster than standing and locking the normal bike. In my bureau the "Brommi" stands in the cupboard - dry and warm.
If I want to go shopping on my way home, I put the Brompton simply in the trolley and push it through the shop. I am used to the surprised expressions of the people meanwhile. (At the cash deck there are no problems.)
In the street traffic one continuously must expect reactions of others: Children start laughing, people wonder and gaze at me. Even the coolest types can still be impressed by a passing Brompton. Sometimes somebody talks to me and wants to know more about the bike. For those people I always have a mini paper with me.
Some comments I catch on the way: "Mama, this man has a small bicycle!", "Look what a strange bike!", "Hey, cool bike ey!", "Hahaha!", "Mh, what is this?" - There is no drive without comments or amazement of people  passing by!

Up to now I took the Brompton also in cinemas, planetariums and exhibitions. A selfmade light black cover changes it into a insignificant "baggage". If somebody would ask what it is, he would not believe me. You can also give it to the wardrobe, but then it's better to carry the 12 kg behind the desk yourself!
